First celebrity ad of Super Bowl XLIV belongs to the Golden Arches with LeBron James and Dwight Howard. This is a throwback to the original featuring Larry Bird and Michael Jordon (thank you for that morsel of knowledge Boyfriend).

Seeing this ad has got me all juiced for the upcoming Sprite Slam Dunk Contest.

So today at work Publisher Mike questioned the yellowness of my yellow sweet potato fries from HUE Restaurant Bar & Lounge.

The showdown went a little like this:

“Those are not sweet potato fries!”

“Yes they are!”

“They don’t look like sweet potatoes…”

“Yes they are!”

“Those aren’t real Louboutins! Leonardo DiCaprio is not your boyfriend!”

“Yes they are! Yes he is!”

I promised him I’d show him the truth: The Sweet Potato!

“Dry-fleshed yellow or white sweet potatoes are grown in the northern part of the U.S. These have pale white-to yellow flesh and beige skin. They appear occasionally at local markets with names such as Nancy Hall and Jersey Yellow sweet potato.”

There you have it Publisher Mike . Don’t worry I won’t ruin candied yams for you. Yellow candied yams?!? Blasphemous.

I’m probably behind the world on watching this (at least behind all the Cav fans who like to eat french fries and watch YouTube videos about LeBron James) but I think it is awesome.

What is more awesome than this is that it warranted a 112 word-count story on the Huffington Post.

Camera-shy? Not quite, I’ve got like 17 billion pictures on my memory card and HTC phone combined (and about 23 million more on my very patient and motivating friends’).

FRY-SHY? *GASP* Never!

Miserably behind on my blogging? Totally.

This past week I made friends with a pastor (I know, totally what the frankenstein).  Thanks to the Kor Kor for introducing me to the Father’s Office burger and for introducing me to the very cool Pastor Jaeson.

Meeting Pastor J made me feel 1. guilt (the man was good at his practice =P ) and 2. thoroughly motivated to not abandon something I am passionate about (again, darn is he good at his practice). As Pastor J would never let a day go by without an act of kindness or providing hope to those who look to him for guidance and support, I as a french fry lover, should never turn my back on something I have committed to love! I cannot cannot cannot! Every fry must be tried. Every tater cannot be a-hatered. Every frite must not be…delete..d?

Well you get the point : ). I’ve been a lazy bum who has really begun to miss blogging and hopes that the blogging world will accept me back in with open arms after 7 long months.

Fry-try coming up: Father’s Office Pomme Frites and Sweet Potato Fries!

Sorry for the lo-res picture guys, had to use the Brother Bear’s iPhone yet again. Perhaps I should try duct taping my camera to my fingers…

After a whole night of shopping with the boys at Nordstrom Rack in the Westgate Shopping Center in San Jose, we were down to the wire to find a place to find some grub before restaurants began closing. Willow Street Pizza took the majority vote (I always hear of it as a sponsor to local radio stations). Long story short – I would ONLY eat the the garlic fries here if I were to come again.

The good:

• Holy garlic fries Batman (as Sarah would say) – bursting with garlicky goodness
• Rivals St. John’s garlic fries for their fresh garlic flavor
• Beats St. John’s in terms of even crispness and shape
• Lots of tapered ends : )
• Piping hot and fresh! None of that pre-fried nonsense here!

The bad:

• Nothing bad to say about these garlic fries…but one question – why give non-matching ketchup sauce dishes : ( I vote for matching dishes for matching sauce!

Now for the reason why I would not return for any of the other food – RAW CHICKEN ON OUR PIZZA. Bad bad bad! Could have been because we came right before closing that the kitchen rushed our orders, but really?!? Last time I checked, I’d like to not go home sick please. Also, they put cubes of cold mozzarella on my “traditional” margherita pizza. Pizza Antica in Santana Row totally rocks the margherita.

Only a couple more weeks till the Statue of Liberty reopens her crown to the public! I visited just a couple of weeks ago and having my priorities in order, went straight from the ferry to the refreshments building for some french fries at the Crown Cafe . Alas, I should have known better than to have high hopes for finding yummy french fries, let alone yummy any food, on Liberty Island.

The good:

• Nice presentation with yam and taro chips sprinkled on top
• Rich golden color
• Evenly sized and cooked

The bad:

• Mushy interior
• Bland taste
• Pre-fried! I watched the server scoop them from right under a heat lamp…the horror! Only the sacred Golden Arches is allowed to do that!

Note: if you are thinking about taking a trip to the island, I’d suggest saving your money and your stomach (I got a tummy ache on the island) and packing a nice picnic for the lawn. Just look how much fun I had on the lawn:

Looks yummy doesn’t it? Too bad this fry try was disappointing in contrast to the awesome photo *ahem ahem*.

While shopping for our Mothers’ Day presents at the Stanford Shopping Center, the Daver Penguin, Brother Bear, a few friends and I stopped by the Palo Alto Creamery Fountain & Grill (formally known as the Peninsula Creamery). The shakes and root beer floats were scrumptious, but the fries were not quite up to par. As a side note, the meal started off with a bird pooping on our table. Good thing there were no vanilla shakes on the table at the time – would have been a camouflage disaster! Let’s get back into the review …

The good:

• Great golden color
• The skin added a nice nutty flavor to the fries
• Salted evenly and to the right degree

The bad:

• Unevenly cut fries!
• Unevenly cooked pieces (some were still raw inside, some were close to burnt, some jabbed the top of my mouth)
• Flash-fried exterior made for a greasy experience

If you do need a great pick-me-up while shopping here, I’d still highly recommend getting the Oreo Mint Chip milkshake, or any of the other great old-fashioned fountain treats served here. Thing to note – they serve Green River and Yoo-hoo!

In case you were wondering, I got my mom a bottle of her favorite for years Lancome Tresor. If you pass out in an elevator, my mom was probably there – sorry.

After going to a friend of a friend’s birthday party, I stopped by the Hoagie Steak Out in Downtown San Jose and ordered some fries last Saturday night. Can’t speak for the cheesesteaks here, but I’ll tell you that my guy friends gobbled theirs down happily…which might not be saying much considering they ARE guys (guys + meat = ooga ooga).

The good:

• Pretty crispy for being thick cut fries
• Hot and made to order
• Open late!
• Tastes great with the ketchup
• Evenly fried and cut

The bad:

• No bad! I am not really a fan of steak/thick cut fries, so saying anything bad would be biased.
• Okay…maybe one bad IMO only – not enough tapered ends : (

Note, there is no skin on these thick cut fries in case you are a hardcore traditional steak fry fan.
